Everyone has at least one novel inside: an oft-used aphorism. I suppose this could be their memoir or an exploration of a life-long passion. But possibly this also applies to a poem. Maybe every person you cross in the street could set down some heart-felt idea as a poetic utterance. Maybe you should try? Given the poly-stylistic world of poetry today, you could easily find a form that fitted, from rap to sonnet, from sonnet to prose poetry. Use a pen, pencil or an iPad. Take a red pen to it. Then all that would be needed to bring this poem to life is to stand up in front of someone you trust and read it aloud. If they say “wow” at the end and stare at you in disbelief, perhaps it was good. So go on, just write one.
